                                                         THE PROVIDENCE HOME

BASIC FACTS

a)      What the PROVIDENCE HOME is…

It is a free of charge home to shelter poor old people who have nobody to look after. It has been found and is managed by a group of laymen and laywomen, members of the providence association which is a social association authorized by the Lebanese government under No 145/AD, dated 18/6/1986.

b)      Location

The association head office and the Providence Home are located in the village of KFERYACHIT, ZGHARTA district, NORTH LEBANON province.

This house is compound of 10 big rooms, one office, one waiting room, one kitchen and other facilities.

e)      Capacity and Statistics

The ten large rooms of the house could contain 25 to 27 beds all together. The first old person was admitted on Feb 5th 1982 and some weeks later the number increased to 25, and every time on bed became empty, it was immediately occupied by a new arrived from waiting list. The statistics in the files show that till the end of 1991, 78 old persons ( 150 women and 19 men) have been sheltered successively at the Providence Home. There are varied between 70 and 90 years. Some of them were sick, paralyzed or blind.

Three aged persons left the home after a short stay, 75 remained till the end of their life.

Since there are no enough beds and rooms at this home for aged, the volunteers of the association paid regular visits to some elderly people at their own abode (which was generally very poor and unhealthy) and looked after them.

The sheltered aged people are MUSLIMS or CHRISTIANS and come from all regions of Lebanon, specially from zgharta, akkar, batroun, bcharreh, koura, Tripoli and koura districts.
